Engineer of Record

The formal requirement of an Engineer of Record first appeared in the Corpus Christi Building Code about 10 years ago. The number of problems with structures in the Coastal Bend area had become so apparent and frequent that several new requirements were written into the code. One of those changes requires that new construction and certain modifications to existing structures be overseen by an engineer with expertise in the area. The Engineer of Record has several responsibilities including design or review of the design, overseeing construction, ensuring that it is being installed as planned, and reporting to the city that the project is complete, safe, and ready for occupancy.
